Airless Sprayer Facts - Choosing the right airless sprayer |
|
|
When choosing a new airless sprayer it can be very
confusing, most salesman will tell you that the machine
he's selling is the best thing since sliced bread. Before you part with
your hard-earned cash, take the time and ask a few simple questions:
1) Does your company repair or carry out service work on this brand
of airless sprayer?
2) What problems may I encounter during the life of this machine?
3) If I have a problem with this machine during warranty, can I
bring it back to you?
In most cases, especially with paint stores, they don't repair
spray equipment. If they don't repair spray equipment, how do they
possibly know if the model you choose is reliable or not? If it does break down during the
warranty period, who will repair it? The machine will most likely be
sent to a warranty repair agent, which can take weeks in most
cases!
Paint stores usually sell machines simply from the sales spiel
printed on the glossy brochures, they often refer to performance graphs
that always put down a competitor's machine. |
| Speak
to people who know: |
|
If you are in the market for an airless sprayer, speak to
service agents, people who repair machines professionally. Ask them what
problems occur with the machine that you are interested in purchasing
and
ask them how much the parts cost to replace.
Service people have a totally different approach to selling a
machine, they quite often see further down the track than just the price
of the machine, which can save you more than just a few hundred dollars,
it can be thousands over the life of a machine. |
| What
requirements do you need in the machine: |
|
What
type of paint will you spray? |
You
need to find a machine that can spray the paint that you most
commonly use. It's no use buying a really small machine if you
are spraying roof coatings, the machine will struggle to keep
up. |
|
Do
you always have electricity on site? |
Some
machines can not be run on generators. Machines that have
electronic circuit boards can be seriously damaged by
unregulated power spikes that generators can cause. Costing in
many cases over a $1000 in repairs. |
|
How
often will you use the machine? |
This
is the most important question. Don't buy a small machine if you
plan to use it on a daily basis. It's false economy, you will
simply kill the machine. Manufacturers produce a range of
machines from small to large specifically to cater for a whole
range of different applications. Speak to a service agent for
some good advice. Be wary of what salesman tell you, as
mentioned at the top of the page - ask the right questions! |
|
Do
you have employee's using the machine? |
Make sure the machine you buy is
idiot proof. The most common complaint from contractors is that
an employee used the
machine and damaged something. |
|
What maintenance will this machine require? |
If
you rely on your airless sprayer on a daily basis, spare some
thought about this. As service agents we have painters bringing
repairs to us constantly. In many cases contractor's lose days
of production because there machine is too small for the amount
of work it is doing, or it's just a well known model for being
unreliable. It's not the contractors fault, he was sold the
machine by a paint store and told it's the machine he needs. |
|
How
much money do you want to spend on purchasing the new machine? |
This
is the big question! With airless spray equipment you simply get
what you pay for. Saving a couple of hundred dollars or even a
couple of thousand dollars when purchasing a new machine can
make a big difference. The cheapest machine doesn't always mean
that your saving money. You must look further ahead and
realistically ask yourself, how much will this machine cost me
in the end, and how long will it last. |
|
What
value do you place on owning this equipment? |
You
have to ask yourself, how much money & time will this
machine save. |
